Sabyasachi has single handedly changed the language of fashion in India, he calls himself a fashion curator, which came as a surprise but I later realised it as a sign of ingenuity because he knows what works for him and how to disrupt these preconceived notions and passable moulds of accepted fashion in India, while retaining that primal motherland integrity which is what connects him with his many admirers - this honesty of ownership.
Through our chats in between trying to make some portraits of him in his forest of a home, I realised these photographs may not truly represent who he is, what he’s managed to do for Indian fashion in the last 20+ years and his aspirations for the future. He’s successfully managed to break the “mediocre” mould of Indian fashion and wants to break foreign stereotypes with his Avante Garde ways of fashion curation, and he’s so much more than just the lehengas he’s known for, so this was our attempt to showcase this growth in his sensibilities with examples that exhibit the extent of his actual repertoire in a multi-disciplinary fashion sense, a more worldly look through an Indian gaze and a global attraction as well.
